My Story: The Dragon

The Dragon plays a short yet vital role in not just the story of Grendel, but also Beowulf's life. This is a time that is "fearful to people in the land, as was the ending: death for their king." ("The Epic of Beowulf" 26). After Beowulf's victory against Grendel and Grendel's mother, he takes the mantel of becoming King for a few decades. He was respected as a wise and powerful figure.

One day, a random thief goes into a cave full of gold during his runaway. The hungry mouse stepped on top of the gold and snugged a chunk in his hands. He "held those gold treasures, old under the earth; no man would buy them cheap." ("The Epic of Beowulf" 27). As soon as the thief tried to leave, a dragon circled over his head. As the thief captured the Dragon in his eyes, he ran away. Barely dodging the Dragon's flame from its mouth.

People had convinced themselves to enter the cave. Although this wasn't his job, Beowulf, the old king, was committed to enter battle against the Dragon, just as he did with Grendel's mother. Here, "His spirit did not fail, nor his heirloom: that the Dragon discovered when they met in battle." ("The Epic of Beowulf" 30).

As Beowulf's foot steped onto the treasure, the Dragon circled again. He spat his flame, surrounding Beowulf, but Beowulf fearlessly kept swinging his sword against the Dragon. During the long battle between the two, Beowulf gets caught by the flame and is almost defeated. Then here comes Wiglaf, the only warrior who was brave as Muhammad Ali to enter the battle. Wiglaf bought time for Beowulf to get the last swing onto the Dragon's neck.

The Dragon went down, as did Beowulf. The two souls walked towards the sky. Wiglaf represents the next generation of heroism and the future of the kingdom.

The Dragon had killed Beowulf. A man who everyone looked up to. If it wasn't for Beowulf battling with the Dragon, Wiglaf wouldn't have had the opportunity to prove himself for being the next leader. The Dragon gave up its life to form a new generation. Everything has a reason behind it, this is what the Dragon had proved within the story.

My Story: The Dragon

The dragon plays a short yet an important role in Beowulf's life.

After victory against Grendel and Grendel's mother, Beowulf takes over the spot being the King for a few decades. He was respected as a wise, powerful figure.

One day, a random theft meets a cave full of gold during his runaway. The hungry mouse stepped on top of the gold and snugged a chunk in his hands. Although as soon as the theft tried to leave, a dragon circled over the theft's head. As soon as the theft captured the dragon in his eyes, he ran away. Barely dodging the dragon's flame from its mouth.

People convinced themselves to enter the cave. Although this wasn't the warrior's job. Beowulf, the old king, has commit to enter the battle against the dragon. Just as if Beowulf entered the battle against Grendel's mother.

As Beowulf's foot steps onto the treasure, the dragon circles again. The dragon spits his flame, surrounding Beowulf. Although Beowulf fearlessly kept swinging his sword against the dragon. During the long battle between the two, Beowulf gets caught by the flame and almost gets defeated by the dragon. Then here comes Wiglaf, the only warrior who was brave as Muhammad Ali to enter the battle. Wiglaf bought time for Beowulf to get a last swing onto the dragon's neck.

The dragon was taken down. So was Beowulf's life. The two souls walked towards the sky. Wiglaf represents the next generation of heroism and the future of the kingdom.

Yes, the dragon killed Beowulf. A human being who everyone looked up to. If it wasn't about Beowulf battling with the dragon, Wiglaf wouldn't have had an opportunity to prove himself for being the next leader. The dragon gave up its life to form a new generation. Everything has a reason behind it, the dragon definitely proved it within the story.
